Best of Iceland -Highlands, Golden Circle and Southeast Iceland Workshop

Sep 1-8, 2024

Sep 1- Arrival in Iceland

Welcome to Iceland – The Land of Ice and Fire
The Icelandic highlands offer a unique and otherworldly landscape that you all won’t find in many other places. The vast, uninhabited expanses, geothermal hot springs, glaciers, and volcanic features create an almost surreal environment. The uniqueness stems from the combination of geological wonders, dramatic scenery, and a sense of isolation.

Enjoy some relaxation time until 4 pm, when we’ll join our guides and fellow travelers in the hotel lobby followed by a welcome dinner. After a fulfilling dinner, anticipation for the workshop will be high as we head back to our hotel to rest for the night.

Sep 2 – Journey through the Icelandic Wilderness in Highlands

Our photographic journey into Iceland’s untamed landscapes commences with an early morning pickup in Reykjavík. As we travel along the South Coast towards the Highlands, it is a fantastic opportunity to bond with our group and guides. The journey itself is a spectacle, featuring cascading waterfalls, majestic glaciers, braided rivers and dramatic rock formations. While the route may vary based on weather and road conditions, we will visit some remarkable crater lakes.

Sep 3 – Landmannalaugar Highlands

Our second day in the highlands takes us deep into the Landmannalaugar region, an enchanting  highland paradise brimming with photographic treasures. The day promises a plethora of photo  opportunities, capturing the essence of geological marvels, brightly colored mountains, glaciers, and  volcanoes. While we could easily lose ourselves in the beauty of the landscape, capturing whatever strikes our fancy, our guides will lead us to the most iconic spots, ensuring we capture some truly unique  images.

Sep 4 – Highland Waterfalls & Desert

Our adventure continues as we journey to see some of the most amazing waterfalls  and the  treacherous Sprengissandur desert.

Sep 5Southeast Iceland

Our photographic odyssey takes us further east along Iceland’s South Coast, leaving Vatnajökull National Park behind, to the striking Vestrahorn mountain on the Stokksnes Peninsula. We’ll have the opportunity to photograph Vestrahorn from various perspectives, potentially including views of the turbulent Atlantic Ocean.  If the auroras are active upon our return, a visit to Jökulsárlón is planned to photograph this natural wonder in another magnificent setting.

Sep 6 – Skaftafell Nature Reserve and Vik Village

On our sixth day, we will visit the spectacular Diamond Beach for sunrise. With tons of blue ice on the black sand beach, it’s the perfect opportunity to play with long exposure techniques and to try out wave painting. We will then spend the majority of the day making our way back to South Coast, continuing to practice our landscape photography along the way.

We will also visit  Mulagljufur Canyon along the way for a breathtaking hike.

Sep 7 – The Golden Circle & Back To Reykjavik

Day seven is our final full day of photography, and we will spend it shooting three of Iceland’s most famous sites: Þingvellir National Park, the Geysir Geothermal Area, and Gullfoss waterfall, all found the on Golden Circle Route.  We will have plenty of chances to shoot Strokkur, which erupts every five to ten minutes. to heights which exceed twenty meters. Our final subject will be one of Iceland’s most recognizable and renowned sites: Gullfoss waterfall. This incredible feature, the name of which translates to the ‘Golden Waterfall’, is immensely powerful, thundering in two tiers into a dramatic, ancient canyon. There are several platforms from which we can capture it.

If time and the weather permits, we will also stop in Bruarfoss. With any luck, we will finish our shoot with the northern lights overhead. We will then return to Reykjavík for our final night.

Sep 8 – Transfer to Keflavik Airport

Sadly, the tour ends on day eight. By this time, however, our album should be packed with fantastic new contributions. When it is time to return to the airport, the bittersweet feeling of departing will hopefully be outweighed by the pride taken in our developed skills. Until next time, we hope everyone had a brilliant time in the land of ice and fire.
