Faroe Islands Workshop

May 6-13, 2023

The Faroe Islands are an archipelago located between the Norwegian Sea and the North Atlantic Ocean, in the middle between Norway and Iceland (politically part of Denmark). It offers some of the most exciting opportunity to photography some of the most breathtaking landscapes in the world- an absolute dream location for landscape photography.
During this photography workshop we will be photographing spectacular waterfalls, incredible sea cliffs, an unbelievable hanging lake, multi-colored homes, exquisitely shaped lush wooden churches and many more.

Itinerary:

Saturday May 6 : Vágar Island

Arrival in the Faroe Islands. We continue discovering the magical scenery and pretty villages in all colours of the rainbow on this little island in the North Atlantic. Visit the unique village of Gásadalur, one of the most photographed places on the Faroes, with its attractive waterfall. We will go from Bøur village to Gásadalur, which has a quite fantastic view of Tindhólmand also see that largest lake in the Faroe Islands, Leitisvatn.

Sunday May 7: Vágar Island

We have another fine day on the island of Vágar with plenty of possibilities for good photos.

Monday May 8: Island of Mykines

During the short ride to the island, you can enjoy a close-up view of majestic sea cliffs and the spectacular islet of Tindhólmur with its spiky mountain peaks. On the Island of Mykines, you will hike with a local guide. Go wild with your camera, capture those fascinating pictures caught in the exact right moment, and make them everlasting.

Tuesday May 9: departure day from Mykines

Today we depature from the island of Mykines, and head north. Driverguide will drive from Sørvágur to the northern most village on the island of Eysturoy to Gjógv. We drive under the highest mountain in the Faroe Islands, Slættaratindur before reaching Gjógv for check in. Enjoy the fantastic nature scenary enroute. Lunch served in Gjógv and time for relaxing. In the afternoon enjoy a walk in this charming village and visit the natural harbor and also take a hike along the harbor. The view to the northern island to the island of Kallsoy is stunning.

Wednesday May 10: Saksun &Tjørnuvík

 With driver guide after breakfast we explore the remote villages of Saksun and Tjørnuvík, all of which offer wonderful scenery. En route you will have great view of the Risin&Kellingin stacks. Saksun is a picturesque village where the bay used to be a naturally protected harbour, but today the entrance is blocked by sand. When the tide is low, you can walk out to the sea. Cross the bridge that connects Streymoy and Eysturoy and continue towards the village of Tjørnuvík that is surrounded by sheer mountains and has another unique view out to the rock formations the Giant and the Witch. On the tour will also pass the impressive waterfall, Fossá. Enjoy a Lunch box enrote. Return to Gjógv in the afternoon.

Thursday May 11: Kallsoy – the James Bond Island

Check out from Gjáargarður. Today we go with ferry from Klaksvík to the island of Kalsoy, popularly called the Recorder, which comes because of the 12 kilometer long road that winds through four tunnels and connects the islands four villages. We stop at the village of Mikladalur which is known for its artists and sagas. By the ocean you can see the beautiful sculpture of the Seal Woman, and this is definitely worth a visit. Also visit the village of Trøllanes far to the north where we also do the hike to Kallur lighthouse. Lunchbox brought along. Return of the island in the afternoon and drive to the capital Tórshavn via the new sub sea tunnel between Eysturoy and Tórshavn – the tunnel has a roundabout which is decorated by the local artist TróndurPatursson – fascinating to see.

Friday May 12: Tórshavncapial

Enjoy the capital on your own by foot. Walk through the old town, Tinganes and the charming area called Reyn with its small black houses and grass roofs. Visit the Nordic House, an architectural gem that hosts many local and international events. Lunch on your own in one of the many nice cafées in town. • Lunch and dinner not included while staying in Tórshavn – many options near by. In the afternoon, we drive to Kirkjubøur, the old cultural centre, where you will be presented with the ancient ruin Saint Magnus Cathedral, which is estimated to originate from the late thirteenth century and represents the style of the best period in Gothic architecture. Here, you will also visit the only medieval church still in use – thought to be even older than the cathedral – as well as the historic farmhouse owned by the same family through 17 generations. Return to Tórshavn and time on your own.
